A collaboration with textile artist Helly Powell led to the creation of a beautiful new collection “The Beasts of the Mabinogion”. As Helly used cloth woven at Melin Tregwynt in the creation of these sculptures, the mill wass the natural starting point to exhibiting them in celebration of the national ‘Year Of Legends’.

Country Homes & Interiors magazine asked Alun Callender to shoot portraits of British Wool Heroes for their 2012 calendar.
He travelled the country from the Scottish borders to West Sussex via Cumbria, Yorkshire, Pembrokeshire, Worcestershire, Somerset & Buckinghamshire and met some very interesting people on the way, and took a lovely set of pictures.
Amanda Griffiths, my wife and partner in Melin Tregwynt is on the left and Marie Wallin, Head designer at Rowan is on the right. I thought they might have followed the example of the WI and gone topless but apparently not.
Here are more heroes

We’re tremendously excited to have been invited to show here as part of the DesignJunction group of UK companies. Other companies involved include Modus, Innermost, Wedgewood, Anglepoise, Benchmark, Channels and Race Furniture.
We all showed together in the amazingly cool and elegant Zegna company building on the Via Savona in the Tortona district of Milan. It was an extraordinary show; full of vitality and stuffed with design, some of it out of this world, most of it good but some of it unbelieveably bad.
Of course DesignJumction was easily the best and it certainly attracted a lot of attention. Word of mouth is important here, and we became a must see.
I’ve included a couple of images from the event but if you wanted to see more of the event just click here to visit our Facebook site where I’ve uploaded some more images.
We did this show earlier this year and it was very successful despite our stand being difficult to find. We were really lucky to be featured in one of the Trend areas.
Francois Bernard the designer chose to feature our work in the “Unplugged” area. We had a very long wall displaying our throws.
We used the show to preview our new bag range which will launch this autumn. This is our satchel bag which will retail for £110 and is the on trend style for this season. It will be available in selected colours and we’ll keep you posted.
There’s a short film of the Unplugged Trend Area at Maison & Objet which you can see here. The commentary is in French but you can see our work covering a whole wall of the trend area.
The guys responsible for publishing information on the John Lewis Partnership corporate website (www.johnlewispartnership.co.uk) have published an article in the JLP e-zine section about Melin Tregwynt and we thought you might like to see it.
The title of the article is Weaving Magic and you’ll find it here
Just the thing for winter chills and weather (and I don’t mean the tea) Take a look at this ad and towards the end you’ll see a little bit of Melin Tregwynt on the sofa. Monkey obviously has good taste and it’s a great advert. Enjoy!
This autumn keep your eyes open for special events to mark The Campaign for Wool, an initiative championed by HRH The Prince of Wales aimed at promoting the natural and sustainable attributes of wool throughout the entire supply chain from textile buyers to end users.
